DAVIS, Calif. - After seeing its five-match win streak snapped in its Big West opener at Hawai'i, UC Davis is ready to build another one starting with this week's matches. On Saturday, the Aggies will face a formidable challenge when UC Santa Barbara, the defending Big West Conference Tournament champions, visits the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The following day, UC Davis will travel to Santa Clara to face the Broncos in its final road contest in nearly a month.

Between Sunday's trip to Santa Clara and its March 10 matchup at Nevada, women's tennis will remain at home for five straight matches.

Before that season-long homestand begins, the Aggies will first face their second nationally ranked singles players in as many weeks. In its recent road trip at Hawai'i, UC Davis squared off against Cindy Nguyen, ranked No. 96 nationally in singles play. In Saturday's league matchup against the Gauchos, No. 80 Palina Dubavets will compete at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

Two Gaucho women's tandems are also recognized nationally - Melissa Baker-Stephanie Yamada are No. 41, and Dubavets-Stefani Stojic made their national debut at No. 52.

UCSB's BWC battle against the Aggies is the first of two duals taking place that day; it will end its day in Morage with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Saint Mary's.

UC Davis will also head west for its following match; the team's drive is a bit longer than the Gauchos because its weekend will end Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara.

Compared to the Aggies, who will have competed in nine spring events when they arrive to the Degheri Tennis Center, the Broncos possess a fraction of that experience. After opening its year with a 5-2 victory against Sonoma State in its season opener, Santa Clara fell to Cal State Fullerton, 4-0, and Nevada by a 6-1 score.

The Aggies' visit will wrap-up the Broncos' season-opening five-match homestand, a block of matchups that includes a date with San José State on Saturday.
