DAVIS, Calif. - Nearly three months have passed since women's tennis competed in an organized event; this hiatus will end Saturday morning when UC Davis heads to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in its first two duals of the season.
In addition to freshmen Kristina Breisacher and Nikita Pradeep, Kelsie Bryant will make their dual debuts in Arizona. All three are prepared, and excited, to compete at the Division I level after gaining vital experience at fall tournaments.
After facing Northern Arizona in its 2017 spring opener, in a neutral-site match held at Arizona State, the Aggies will square off against the host Sun Devils the following day. The Pac-12 Networks will provide a live stream of one court during Sunday's UC Davis-ASU contest online for free.
A live stream of Court 1 is available by clicking here, or the link above. Once action concludes on this court, the stream will jump to another until the dual is over.
This weekend's events are the first of a season-opening three-match road swing that will conclude on Jan. 28 at Sacramento State.
Two years ago, head coach Bill Maze and his squad opened their season on this exact same road trip, one that yielded a split when the Aggies earned a 5-2 victory vs. NAU, but dropped the following match to ASU.
The 2017 season opener marks the fourth time UC Davis faced the Lumberjacks in its season opener; in addition to their 2015 result, the Aggies defeated Northern Arizona 7-0 in 2012 and 6-1 in 2013.
Entering its ninth spring opener at the Division I level, UC Davis holds a 5-3 record in its first dual of the season thanks to its 4-3 victory at Pacific in last year's inaugural dual.
When it visits the Whiteman Tennis Center for the final time this weekend, women's tennis will face an Arizona State squad ranked No. 22 in the nation. This matchup also provides Aggie fans with an opportunity to watch the team compete on the road, thanks to a video stream provided by the Pac-12 Networks.
