2016-17 Non-Conference Schedule
DAVIS, Calif. - A rivalry showdown in the Golden 1 Center's first college basketball game, two tournaments, including the team's inaugural appearance at the GCI Great Alaska Shootout and the first head-to-head game against Cal in six seasons highlight UC Davis basketball's non-conference slate, as announced by head coach Jim Les on Tuesday.
Also included in UC Davis' competitive non-conference schedule are five games against teams that advanced to last year's postseason, a total that can increase to as many as seven depending on who the Aggies face in their final two days at the Shootout.
UC Davis will tip off the season against Tennessee State (Nov. 11) at the Cable Car Classic, one of two fall tournaments on the team's docket. The Aggies' weekend in Santa Clara will end with their first head-to-head game against the host Broncos (Nov. 12) since December 6, 1986, and Northern Arizona (Nov. 13).
Following their home opener against Holy Names (Nov. 17), the Aggies will head to downtown Sacramento to compete in the first college basketball game at Golden 1 Center, site of this year's Causeway matchup against Sacramento State (Nov. 21).
"UC Davis is thrilled to be a part of the first college basketball game in the new arena. Our alums, fans, players, and coaches are all excited for this opportunity, and appreciate the Sacramento Kings for inviting us into their new home," said Les.
An exciting week of basketball continues when the team heads to Anchorage to make its first appearance at the GCI Great Alaska Shootout. This year's field includes five teams that advanced to postseason play last spring: Buffalo, Iona, Nevada, Oakland and Weber State (Nov. 24), the Aggies' opening-round opponent. University of Alaska Anchorage and Drake round out this year's field.
In addition to broadcasting UC Davis' Thanksgiving Day game vs. the Wildcats, CBS Sports Network will televise both semifinals and the championship game for a national audience.
The Aggies will face either Drake or Iona on November 25 before competing in their final Shootout contest the following day.
Before Finals Week begins, UC Davis will make a quick trip to Idaho (Dec. 3); after exams conclude, the Aggies will head down I-80 for their first game against Cal (Dec. 10) in six seasons.
Beginning at North Dakota State (Dec. 14), three of the Aggies' final five non-conference games will take place on the road. After William Jessup visits the Pavilion (Dec. 17), UC Davis will head to Air Force (Dec. 22), and Seattle (Dec. 28) before returning home to host Utah Valley (Dec. 31) in its final tune-up before the start of Big West play.
August 25 is the first day that UC Davis basketball fans can renew, or place a deposit for 2016-17 season tickets. For additional information regarding season tickets, contact the UC Davis Athletic Ticket Office at (530) 752-AGS1 (2471).
