LAWRENCE, Kan. -- UC Davis junior Basil Okoroike and freshman Drew Xandrine-Anderson closed out the Aggies' stay at the NCAA Track and Field West Prelims in Lawrence, Kan., finishing 26th and 36th, respectively, in the triple jump on Saturday morning.
Okoroike's leap of 15.08m (49-05.75) was the top mark of the five Big West Conference competitors in the event, finishing just under three feet shy of TCU's Scotty Newton in 12th place for the final qualifying spot after the Horned Frogs' sophomore posted a mark of 15.85m (52-0).
He scored in both the triple and long jump at the Big West Championships for the Aggies, finishing fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.94m (49-00.25) and sixth in the long jump at 7.14m (23-05.25).
Making his debut in the regional meet, Xandrine-Anderson finished with a mark of 14.66m (48-01.25) after posting a fourth-place finish at the Big West Championships in the event with a leap of 14.97m (49-01.50).
The top 12 in the event on Saturday morning automatically qualified for next month's national championship meet at the University of Oregon.
