FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman midfielder Taylor Cuenin posted a hat trick while senior Ellie Delich added a goal and assist but UC Davis fell off the pace against Furman in the second half, falling 10-7 in a neutral-site women's collegiate lacrosse game at Fresno State Soccer & Lacrosse Field Sunday afternoon.

Besides Cuenin and Delich, senior Courtney Neff, freshman Shannon Cross and sophomore Kelsey DeJesus also added goals for UC Davis. Senior Mary Doyle led all players with four draw controls. Cross also had two draw controls and two ground balls to go with her offensive output.

For Furman, junior Ashley Trice netted a game-high four goals while junior Paige Gamble added a hat trick.

Both teams battled closely in the first half, resulting in a 5-5 standoff at the break. Delich assisted Cuenin for the game's first goal in the fifth minute, then Neff made it 2-0 with her drive in the seventh. However, the Paladins scored four of the next five to take a 4-3 lead by the midpoint of the first half. Cuenin tied the game at 4-4 with her goal in the 20th minute. Then after a Devon Horine eight-meter goal had the Aggies trailing by one, Doyle fed Delich for a goal in the final seconds to knot the game for a third time.

Although UC Davis held in stride with Furman for the first 30 minutes, the Paladins exploded to five unanswered after halftime to pull away to victory. Trice scored three times and Gamble twice in that run while the Aggies went scoreless until Cuenin's hat trick goal with six minutes remaining. Furman outshot UC Davis, 13-5, during the second half.

The Aggies return to action on Tuesday night against Vermont. First draw is 7 p.m.
