ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Shot putter Veronica Smart, pole vaulters Ariel Maroon and Danielle Steffen, and sprinter Mikaela Adolphus all made the most of the second day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Saturday, posting personal-best marks for the UC Davis women's indoor track and field team.
The Aggies competed in four events during Saturday's second day, picking up strong performances throughout their lineup. Smart helped lead the way with her third-place showing in the shot put, picking up a mark of 48 feet, 2.50 inches. It was a PR by more than two feet and moved her from No. 5 to all-time to No. 3.
Maroon and Steffen remain tied for sixth at UC Davis in the pole vault but improved their previous-bests by a half-inch with clearances of 12-3.5 on Saturday. Maroon finished in 23rd place while Steffen placed 24th, with the difference in the standings coming on misses.
Adolphus added her name to the all-time 400 list in her first collegiate race at that distance. She finished 16th on Saturday in 56.32, putting her fifth and just .01 behind Celise Carroll (1998), who is fourth.
UC Davis will return to New Mexico for the Don Kirby Invitational next week.
