CHICO, Calif.
- UC Davis freshman Kyle Clancy won two events and finished third in two others while finishing with 6,710 points on Friday at the Chico Multi Event Classic, posting the Aggies' best decathlon score since 2003.

Freshman Erin Beattie nearly broke 4,000 points in her first collegiate heptathlon competition, scoring 3,954 points and placing seventh. Freshman Jaleah Cavillo also performed well in her initial meet as an Aggie, finishing in 10th with 3,824 points.

Clancy's total score puts him seventh all-time at UC Davis and is the program's top mark since Matt Chisam posted 7,189 points at the 2003 NCAA Division II Championships. He won an event on each of the two-day competition, capturing the high jump at 6 feet, 7 inches on Thursday and then opening Friday with a victory in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.96 seconds.

He added a third place in the 100 (11.25) and long jump (23-6.75) and was fifth in the javelin (144-0). His long jump mark was just two inches from getting him into the Aggies' top-10 list for that event.

Unattached competitor Phill Bailey won the decathlon with 7,362 points.

Beattie had a pair of top-three showings in the heptathlon, tying for first in the high jump at 5-5.75. That put her less than an inch from a spot on UC Davis' all-time list. She later capped her meet by finishing third in the 800 in 2:27.4, scoring 726 points.

Cavillo tied for third in the high jump at 5-2.25 and was fourth in the long jump - the first event on Friday - with a wind-aided mark of 16-8.75. The latter mark netted her 587 points, her best total on the second day.

Brooke Whitburn of Chico State took first in the heptathlon with 4,787 points.

The Chico Multi Meet annually kicks off the outdoor track and field season for UC Davis which will be in full action next Saturday at the Cal Opener in Berkeley.
