PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore goalie Lauren Ali posted a career-best 13 saves while four Aggies scored one goal each as UC Davis suffered a 17-4 loss to Temple in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Geasey Field Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies even their record to 1-1. The Owls improve to 2-1 overall.
Senior Ellie Delich tallied a goal and an assist to lead UC Davis offensively. Junior Melissa Kellan and freshman Taylor Cuenin and Shannon Cross also scored a goal each. Cuenin also picked up two ground balls and three draw controls for the Aggies. For Temple, seniors Brenda McDermott and Megan Tiernan each scored three goals with an assist.
Cuenin put the Aggies on the board with the game's first goal just 4:16 after the initial draw, only to have Tiernan and McDermott score two goals apiece in a run of seven unanswered. Temple led 9-3 at the half, then netted another three straight to extend its lead to 12-3.
The Owls outshot their guests by a 31-9 margin and outdrew the Aggies, 14-8, while holding a more modest edge in ground balls (14-12) and turnovers (12-17).
Ali's previous high was nine saves in a 39-minute appearance vs. USC last season. She split time with then senior Kai Murphy in 2015 but now serves as UC Davis' lone goalie.
The Aggies take a weekend off from competition before facing Furman in neutral-site action at Fresno State on March 6.
