Final Stats

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Seniors Ellie Delich and Courtney Neff and freshman Taylor Cuenin each recorded hat tricks to propel UC Davis to a 12-7 victory over Bryant in non-conference women's lacrosse action at the Bryant Turf Complex Friday afternoon.

The Aggies open the 2016 season, the first under new head coach Tee Ladouceur, with a 1-0 mark. The Bulldogs even their record to 1-1.

Delich and fellow senior midfielder Mary Doyle led all players with four total points. Delich also had an assist to Taylor Cuenin as part of UC Davis' 5-1 start to the game, while Doyle notched two assists in each half of play. The Aggies never trailed in the contest, as Doyle's initial draw control led to a Neff goal just one minute into the contest. Bryant tied the contest on the next possession, only to have Cuenin score twice in a run of four unanswered.

UC Davis led 5-2 at halftime, then extended its lead to 7-2 through the 37th minute on goals by Delich and Neff. The Bulldogs pulled to within a two-goal deficit on a run of three straight: Junior midfielder Ali Cardinal scored twice and assisted Jess DeMeo on another to set the board at 7-5 with 16:50 remaining.

Cuenin then cooled the Bryant offense with two of her game-high four caused turnovers. The second, a pick of Shannon Sullivan near the 12-meter fan, led to a quick transition into the attack. Moments later, Doyle fed freshman Shannon Cross for a goal to extend the Aggie lead back to three in the 49th minute. Cuenin completed her hat trick in the 51st and Delich connected in the 52nd to help UC Davis pull away. Another senior, attacker Sam Axenroth, also tallied a goal down the stretch.

The Aggies outshot their hosts by a 23-19 margin, putting 19 of those attempts on goal. Sophomore Shannon Geary totaled six draw controls to help UC Davis hold a 13-8 margin in that category. The Aggies also transitioned well, clearing successfully on 14 of 18 opportunities.

UC Davis continues its season-opening road trip at Temple on Sunday. First draw is 10 a.m. Pacific.
