Feb. 17, 2016

Final results

LA QUINTA, Calif.
- Senior Patrick Soli fired a 1-under 70 and senior Ben Corfee carded a 71 as each posted top-20 finishes on Wednesday, helping the UC Davis men's golf team beat a top-10 ranked team en route to ninth place at The Prestige at PGA WEST, which it co-hosted with Stanford at the Greg Norman Course.

The Aggies fired a final-round 287 on the 7,046-yard course, finishing just one shot behind Saint Mary's and Stirling University (Scotland), which tied for seventh at 11 over. UC Davis (+12) finished in front of fifth-ranked Duke (+13) by a shot.

Corfee tied for 14th at 1 under for the week while Soli tied for 19th at 1 over. Ryan Knop, who also had a 71, was 72nd at 21 over while Evan Knight and Luke Vivolo each fired 75, tying for 37th and 53rd, respectively. Knight was 6 over for the 54-hole tournament while Vivolo was 10 over.

Nicolas Noya shot 73 and placed 61st at 12 over while Jesse Bratz carded a 73 and tied for 62nd at 13 over. Both played this week as individuals.

"We competed really well this week," said Williams. "Ben played at a really high level and it's good to see Patrick rebound and play well like we know he can play. Once we get everyone contributing like they're capable, we'll be ready to take that next step. Overall, we had a good week. Beating the No. 5 team (Duke) is an accomplishment, something to savor."

Defending national champion LSU roared to the tournament title, rolling through the course with an 19-under total of 826 on Wednesday to finish 26 under overall and beat seventh-ranked Arizona State by a decisive 18 shots. San Diego State, ranked 23rd, finished third at 4 under. Those were the only three teams under par.

Soli had four birdies on Wednesday, picking up a pair on each side of the course and was 1 under on the back. Corfee was 1 over at his turn but used a birdie on the par-4 14th and an eagle on the par-5 16th to come in at 1 under over his final nine holes.

Knop enjoyed his best round of the tournament, playing a steady front nine just a shot over par but then capitalized on three birdies on the back to play it 1 under. Vivolo had three birdies while Knight had two. Noya had a pair of birdies on his final nine holes to spark his day while Bratz had one while playing the front nine at par.

LSU's Zach Wright shot a 4-under 67 to claim medalist honors at 12 under and beating Ryann Ree of San Diego State by two shots.

The Aggies will move to the National Invitational Tournament at Arizona beginning Feb. 28.
