Feb. 10, 2016 DAVIS, Calif. - By winning all four of her matches played throughout last weekend's road trip through San Diego, Lani-Rae Green earned Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors when announced by conference officials on Wednesday.
Green was the last UC Davis player to receive this award when the conference announced her as its top player on Jan. 28 of last year; today's announcement marks the second time the league bestowed weekly accolades to the sophomore Aggie.
Green earned two victories at singles No. 2, a doubles win against San Diego State's top doubles team and another positive result against UC San Diego's No. 2 pairing.
Against the Aztecs, it was Green who was responsible for two of the Aggies' team points. After dropping the first set against SDSU's Kennedy Davis, she battled back, won the following two sets, pulled UC Davis even with its opponent at 3-3, thanks to that victory and preserved her team's chance to win that match with one singles contest still in action, at that time.
Of Green's five wins earned this spring, four took place throughout this past weekend.
UC Davis will kick-off its upcoming three-match road trip Saturday morning at 10 a.m., against No. 21 UCLA, before heading to Central California for its first Big West matches.
The team's 2016 league opener is set for noon on Valentine's Day at UC Santa Barbara; UC Davis will end its President's Day weekend with a 10 a.m. Monday morning dual at Cal Poly.
