AUSTIN, Texas - UC Davis senior Ashley Marshall advanced to the 200-meter dash quarterfinals at the NCAA Track and Field West Prelim Meet at the University of Texas for the third consecutive season when she finished third in her heat on Friday evening.

Marshall, the school-record holder in the event (23.25 seconds) who has a wind-aided time of 23.18 this season, was timed in 23.55 seconds on Friday. The top three finishers in each of the six heats advanced to the 24-person quarterfinals on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. (PDT).

Saturday's round will feature three heats with the top three in each race qualifying for the NCAA Finals in Eugene, Ore., in June. The next three best times beyond the automatic qualifiers will also move on.

Marshall is looking to race in the 200 at the national finals for the first time in her career. Earlier Friday, she was attempting to make her third consecutive trip to the finals in the 100 but was timed in 11.44 seconds in her quarterfinal race, placing 17th overall. Twelve competitors advanced to Eugene.

UC Davis had six other competitors in action on Friday. Cekarri Nixon advanced out of Thursday's 400-meter prelims into Friday's quarterfinal round where she crossed in 53.66 seconds, placing 16th overall and missing a berth to the NCAA Finals by just four spots.

The standout senior was unable to advance in the 200 but posted a PR of 24.04 that improved her No. 3 all-time standing at UC Davis.

Clara MacLeod and Erika Barr were the only other Aggies on the track on Friday. Both are ranked among UC Davis' top five on the program's all-time steeplechase list. MacLeod made a run at her PR (10:34.70) before finishing 36th overall in 10:48.40. Barr crossed in 10:57.40.

Both the Aggie men and women had field event entries at the regional on Friday as well. Senior Brandon Greenberg helped highlight the Aggie men with his performance in the shot put. Greenberg, whose entered the meet ranked fifth all time at UC Davis with a mark of 17.33 meters (56-10.25), surpassed that PR on his third attempt when he went 17.37 meters (57-00.00) to jump to fourth all-time. He was in his third career regional.

Senior Katie Barber, school-record holder in the high jump and in her second career regional, cleared 1.68 meters (5-06.00) on her first attempt but was unable to get over the bar at 1.73 meters (5-08.00), tying for 33rd. Ben Parodi faced a tough field in the hammer throw but was not able to achieve a mark.

The Aggies will finish competition at the regional meet on Saturday. Marshall and Nixon will join teammates Emma Redick and Holly Miller in the 4x100 relay at 2 p.m. (PDT), Marshall will race in the 200, Raquel Lambdin tries for her second straight trip to the NCAA Finals in the 1,500 at 4:30, and Trevor Halsted looks to punch his ticket in the 5,000-meter run at 6:45.
