CHANDLER, Ariz. - Mike Brockington's career low 7-under 65 in Monday's first round helped give him a share of the first-day lead while the No. 57 UC Davis men's golf team went 20 shots under par after 36 holes for a two-shot lead at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Whirlwind Golf Club.

UC Davis, which has won the tournament twice previously, had identical rounds of 10-under 278 and leads McNeese State and Colorado -- which are both 18 under -- by two strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

Brockington's masterful 65 was backed up by a 71, pushing him 8 under and tying him with Colorado's David Oraee who fired 68s in each round. Junior Luke Vivolo opened with a 68 and is 5 under and tied for fifth. Patrick Soli shot 67 in the afternoon's round, helping him move to 3 under and into a tie for 16th.

Senior Matt Seramin and freshman Ryan Han are each tied for 46th at par after highlighting their days with rounds of 71 and 69, respectively.

The Aggies are in the midst of a busy week of golf. They finished seventh at Arizona State to start the weekend, are in Chandler for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic and will return home to defend their El Macero Classic title beginning Friday at El Macero Country Club.

"This is the fourth consecutive tournament we've put ourselves in good position which is always our goal going into the final round." said Aggie coach Cy Williams. "We had four different players step up today with strong rounds which is a testament to the depth of our roster and we're excited too meet the challenge that tomorrow brings."

Brockington led the way for UC Davis, starting strong with birdies on his first two holes and on three of his first four. He added another on the par-5 seventh hole to go 4 under before ending his round with three birdies over the final four holes to get to 7 under. He added four birdies in the the second round. Brockington's previous career-best score was a 66 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational last season.

Vivolo, who had a 71 in the second round, had five birdies and just one bogey in his opening-round 68. He birdied three consecutive holes during the middle of the round to help gain momentum. Soli shot 74 in the morning but then came back with a 67, fueled by four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 17th.

Seramin shot 71-73, playing the back nine of the Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club 3 under in the first round. Han opened with a 75 but then had five birdies during his 69 in the second round.

UC Davis will tee off Tuesday's 7:30 a.m. shotgun with McNeese State, Colorado and Gonzaga in their group.
