Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. -

Senior goalkeeper Kai Murphy posted 13 saves and three ground balls while allowing just five goals in 27 shots faced, but UC Davis could manage only three shots after halftime, falling in overtime to Marquette by a 5-4 final in collegiate women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies slip to 1-3 for the year. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-3 overall.

Emily Donovan scored the game-winner in the fourth minute of the overtime period, converting an assist from Claire Costanza.

For UC Davis, sophomore Melissa Kellan had a goal and assist, both in the span of two minutes midway through the second half. Freshman Kelsey DeJesus and junior Ellie Delich each netted their first goals of the year while senior Elizabeth Landry had the goal on Kellan's assist in the 41st minute.

Marquette outshot its host by an 11-9 margin in the first half, while both teams combined for 20 total turnovers, resulting in a 3-2 Golden Eagle lead at the break. UC Davis took just two shots in the second half and one in the overtime period, but Murphy did all she could to keep her team's hopes alive, tallying eight stops in the second.

Kellan's outburst erased a 4-2 deficit, and Murphy's netminding kept Marquette from prevailing in regulation. Murphy added another save in the first overtime segment, picking off Smith's attempt at a go-ahead. However, Golden Eagle defender Elizabeth Goslee won the draw for the bottom half of the OT period. After a yellow card short-handed UC Davis, Costanza found Donovan cutting toward the cage along the left side. Donovan's quick stick put up the fifth and final tally of the game.

UC Davis had one final chance to force a sudden-victory period when Tess Kevorkian and Savannah Hadley trapped Costanza in the far corner of the field, near the Aggie cage. Costanza was called for a charge trying to escape but UC Davis was unable to run the length of the field in the final 16 seconds. An MU would-be foul in the Aggies' attacking third did not happen in time to allow for one final eight-meter attempt, and the Eagles held on to the win.

UC Davis outdrew its guest by a 9-4 margin but continued to struggle in transitions, turning the ball over in seven of its 16 clear attempts.

The Aggies continue their four-game homestand with a Tuesday afternoon game against Old Dominion on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m. at Aggie Stadium.
