SAN MARCOS, Texas - Jason Chandler and Emma Redick each finished second in their respective 400-meter hurdle races at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational with career-best times as the UC Davis men's and women's track and field teams shined despite limited numbers at the meet on Friday afternoon.

Chandler, a junior from Rocklin, was runner-up in his heat and for the event with his time of 52.38 seconds while Redick, a redshirt freshman from Santa Barbara, won her heat in 1:00.56 while taking second overall.

Chandler is in his second year racing the hurdles while Redick is in her first. His time eclipsed his previous best of 52.65 set at the Cal Opener three weeks ago and jumped him from No. 9 all-time at UC Davis to No. 7, just .01 behind Kurt Schwartz (52.37, 1993) who sits in the No. 6 spot. Redick lowered her PR for the second time in four faces, beating her PR of 1:01.14 from the Aggie Open on Mar. 14 and solidifying her No. 5 all-time position at UC Davis.

The hurdles were among several highlights for the Aggies on Friday. Ashley Marshall finished second in her specialty race, the 100, in 11.45 seconds, her second-fastest time of the season. Cekarri Nixon had a big PR in the same event, placing 10th in 12.00 and moving her onto the Aggies' all-time list in that event at No. 6. Her previous best time was 12.33 in 2013.

Nixon also ran well in her premier race, the 400, placing third in 54.45. That time only trailed her Hornet Invite meet record of 54.31 last week as her best this spring. Also, Michaela Mundt (177 feet, 7 inches) was eighth in the hammer for the women while Corey Hobbs (11.08) was 12th in the 100 for the men.

UC Davis was also in action on Friday at the prestigious Texas Relays at the University of Texas. Shot putters Brandon Greenberg and Veronica Smart represented the Aggies with Greenberg taking 12th (51-10.5) in his section while Smart was 11th in hers (44-5.5).

The Aggies will finish at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday while distance specialists Raquel Lambdin (1500) and Nicholas Ratto (mile) will race at the Texas Relays.
