DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Courtney Neff scored five goals while senior Elizabeth Landry and sophomore Melissa Kellan each added four, helping UC Davis to a 13-10 victory over Detroit in women's collegiate lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Monday night.
The Aggies pick up their first win of 2015, moving to 1-2 for the year. The Titans dip to 1-3 overall.
Neff scored UC Davis' go-ahead goal with three minutes left in the first half, setting her team to a 6-5 lead at the break, then exploded for four more in the second half. Landry, who also had one of the Aggies' four assists, scored three goals in the first third of the game to help erase an early 3-0 deficit. Kellan had two goals in a 4-1 run to start the second, helping UC Davis pull ahead to a 10-6 margin by the 41st minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kai Murphy tallied 11 saves against the 10 goals, although one of the Detroit scores came against an open net after a foul.
UDM senior Annie Mendoza hit goals in the ninth and 10th minutes of the game to propel the Titans to the 3-0 start. She later ignited a 3-0 Titan run to help close the gap to just an 11-10 deficit with five minutes remaining. Neff added two goals and Murphy came up with a save down the final stretch to seal the victory.
UC Davis outdrew Detroit by a 17-8 margin, with seven going into Landry's stick. Mary Doyle, Morgan Sissler and Allie Lehner also won two draws, with Sissler adding a team-high two caused turnovers. The Aggies' advantage on the draw proved critical in their first-half comeback, as they won six of seven after the initial 3-0 hole.
The Aggies return to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against Marquette, the second in a four-game homestand.
