SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Freshman Jesse Bratz had two rounds of 72 to highlight his play at the Sacramento State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, helping him finish in 10th place and lead four UC Davis players who competed as individuals at Valley Hi Country Club.
Bratz finished 3 over for the 54-hole tournament after shooting 75 in the second round. Will Brink had a 2-under 70 in the final round and tied for 35th at 9 over, Nicolas Noya was 10 over and tied for 41st after highlighting his play with a 75 in the second round, and Evan Knight finished 21 over and tied for 81st. He carded a 76 in the middle round for his best score.
Bratz and Brink were playing in just their third tournaments of the 2014-15 season while Knight was making his Aggie debut.
Bratz opened the tournament with his first 72, collecting four birdies. He was 1 under on the back nine of the 7,064-yard course. Bratz added four more birdies on Tuesday during another round of 72. Brink's impressive final round of 2-under 70 included a spectacular 3-under 33 on the course's front nine and four birdies overall. Noya was even on the back nine during his last round and Knight was a combined 1 under on the front nine during his first two rounds.
The host Hornets won their own tournament with a 13-shot win over Pacific. Sacramento State's Luke Kristo was 8 under to win medalist honors.
UC Davis will be back in action as a team this weekend when it travels to the Banden Dunes Championship in Oregon. The first round tees off on Friday.
