Feb. 18, 2015 Final round
LA QUINTA, Calif. - Luke Vivolo shot a 2-under 70 while Nicolas Noya came in with a 72 on Wednesday afternoon as the UC Davis men's golf team finished 11th at The Prestige at PGA WEST, played at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and co-hosted with Stanford.
It was Vivolo's best round of the week, left him at par for the 54-hole tournament and tied him for 30th. Noya rebounded nicely from his second-round 81 thanks to a final round that he played to par on both sides of the 7,204-yard course.
Ryan Han shot 77 and finished 6 over, Mike Brockington carded a 78 and was 7 over for the tournament, and Matt Seramin had an 80 and was 13 over. Patrick Soli, competing with teammate Jesse Bratz as an individual, finished with a 75 while Bratz had a 76. Both finished 11 over overall. UC Davis finished 18 over overall.
Arizona State, which held the lead going into the last day, held off fast-charging Stanford for the team title. The No. 25 Sun Devils came in 31 under while No. 16 Stanford jumped from seventh to second at 27 under after going 20 under on Wednesday.
Stanford was helped by an 8-under 64 from Maverick McNealy who went on to win medalist honors at 15 under.
Vivolo had four birdies - two on each side - while playing both the front and back nine a shot below par. Two of his birdies came on par-5 holes. Noya had birdies on the par-5 seventh and par-4 10th holes, en route to cutting nine shots off his second-round score.
Han and Brockington each posted three birdies in their round and Seramin had one. Soli was 1 under on the front side of the course while Bratz did the same on the back.
"It was a great tournament at an amazing venue," said Aggie coach Cy Williams. "We're really proud of how this tournament has grown. Our team definitely didn't play our best but our guys are good players and we did beat the No. 2 team (Oregon) in the country."
UC Davis will be off until competing in the Bandon Dunes Championship, hosted by Gonzaga at Bandon Dunes, Oregon.
