LA QUINTA, Calif. - Luke Vivolo and Ryan Han each fired 1-over 73s during Tuesday's second round as the UC Davis men's golf team remained in 11th place at The Prestige at PGA WEST, which the Aggies are co-hosting with Stanford at the renowned Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
UC Davis shot an 8-over 296 on Tuesday and are seven shots in front of 12th-place Pepperdine but 10 back of seventh-ranked UCLA. Han's 73 put him at 1 over for the week and ties for 34th with teammate Mike Brockington who carded a 76. Vivolo's 73 was his second in a row and ties him for 42nd at 2 over. Matt Seramin shot 74 and is tied for 54th at 5 over while Nicolas Noya shot 81 and is tied for 77th at 14 over.
Arizona State, ranked 25th and one of 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50, took over the team lead with a 14-under 274 that put the Sun Devils at 23 under overall. They lead No. 27 Oklahoma State which is 21 under. First-day leader University of Stirling from Scotland is six shots back in third.
Arizona State's Max Rottluff carded a 6-under 66 to tie teammate Jon Rahm atop the individual leaderboard at 8 under. They lead Maverick McNealy of Stanford, and Jordan Niebrugge and Kristoffer Ventura of Oklahoma State by one shot.
Vivolo had two birdies in the second round with both of them coming during a five-hole stretch to close the round, bringin him closer to par after he went 3 over. He played the front nine of the course a shot under par. Han posted four birdies overall with two coming on each side and on consecutive holes. He picked up the first two on the par-4 and par-5 14th and 15th holes, respectively, before doing the same on the par-4 and par-5 sixth and seventh holes, respectively, on the front side.
Brockington was 4 over on the back nine but then was even on the front nine, helped by two birdies. Seramin had three birdies while playing the course's final nine holes even. Noya was just 2 over on his back nine to help him rally coming in.
Jesse Bratz and Patrick Soli, competing as individuals for UC Davis, shot 75 and 81, respectively, on Tuesday. Bratz had two birdies on the back nine which he played 1 over while Soli had four straight pars to finish his round. Bratz is tied for 63rd at 7 over while Soli is 8 over and tied for 67th.
UC Davis will tee of Wednesday's final round beginning at 7:30 and will play with UCLA and Pepperdine.
