HOUSTON, Texas -- Following a day that saw the Aggies swim their way to four of the school's quickest times in the 50 free and 200 IM, freshman Solie Laughlin eclipsed the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 back and the UC Davis women's swimming team set five more top-10 times to help the Aggies remain in third place after 12 events in Houston, Texas.
The top seven teams remained unchanged in the standings as UC Davis, with 572 points, trails second-place Tulane by just 12 points, and distanced itself from fourth-place Houston, which has 519 points after day two. Rice leads for the second straight day, accumulating 773.50 points.
In the final event of the day, Laughlin became the first Aggie to post an NCAA "B" cut this season, touching in a time of 55.00 to finish third in the 100 back and just get under the standard of 55.09. The freshman, who also owns top-10 times in school history in the 200 back (seventh) and 200 IM (6th), posted the fifth-best time in the 100 back with her 55.94 in the prelims, bettering that mark to the third-fastest with her time in the finals.
She trails only record-holder Hilary Hunt (53.68) and Ashley Chandler (54.03) on the all-time list.
Earlier in the day, Laughlin collected another top-10 time, posting the eighth-fastest time in the 400 IM prelims with a 4:25.19, and improving on that with a finals swim of 4:21.66, finishing second in the race and improving to the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Joining her on the 100 back list was sophomore Aislinn Dresel, who finished 18th in the race with a time of 56.60 -- the eighth-fastest time in school history. UC Davis opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of Laughlin, Hailey Ferko, Facey, and Kirsten Brand, posted a time of 1:42.04, shaving more than three seconds off the previous season-best set at Utah on Nov. 6.

Brand and Facey also advanced to the championship final of the 200 free, finishing fifth (1:50.33) and eighth (1:51.82), respectively.
Ferko finished 15th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.42 in the finals to pace UC Davis, which added a second-place finish in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:27.87 thanks to the quartet of Robin Lampron, Facey, Lexy Troup, and Brand.
