FAIRFAX, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Patrick Soli shot a final round 69 to finish at 2-under for the day and tied for 10th overall, leading the Aggies to a 12th-place finish at the 2015 Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California, on Tuesday morning.
UC Davis finished with a 3-over-par 855 as a team at the end of Tuesday's final round, ending six shots back of Oregon State (-3, 849) and six shots ahead of San Diego (+9, 861). Host and No. 25-ranked California won its home event for the seventh consecutive season, finishing at 42-under and nine shots ahead of Pepperdine and No. 6 Arizona State, which tied for second place.
Day one leader Cody Blick of San Jose State took home individual medalist honors with a 17-under 196, edging the Sun Devils' Jon Rahm and the Waves' Frederick Wedel by a single stroke, and finishing one shot shy of the tournament record.
For Soli, it was the senior's best finish of the season and his second career top-10 finish, opening with three birdies through the first six holes on the back nine, and moving to 4-under following a birdie on one. However, a double bogey on two and a bogey on four derailed the San Carlos, California, native for a bit, before he recovered with a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole to finish the front nine at 1-over.
Dating back to the Windon Memorial Classic in Illinois two weeks ago, Soli has broken par in each of his last five rounds, including his opening-round 67 this weekend -- the lowest single round by an Aggie this season and just one off his career best round of 66 set last season at The Goodwin at Stanford. He has three top-20 individual finishes in four fall events this season.
Senior Luke Vivolo was the next highest finisher for UC Davis, finishing the day with a 2-over 73 and a tie for 47th overall at 2-over for the tournament. Freshman Ryan Knop finished Tuesday's final round with a 2-over 73 after carding back-to-back rounds of 72 through 36 holes and ended the tournament in a tie for 57th at 4-over, while junior Ben Corfee finished with four birdies on the day to post a final-round 72 -- his best of the tournament -- and end the event in a tie for 66th at 7-over.
Junior Nicolas Noya rounded out the Aggies' scoring group, finishing Tuesday with a final-round 75 and a tie for 71st.
This week's event closed out the fall portion of the schedule for the UC Davis men's golf team, which doesn't return to action until February at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawai'i on Feb. 4-6. It is the first of six events in the spring for the Aggies, which include hosting The Prestige at PGA West along with Stanford on Feb. 15-17, and the El Macero Classic on April 15-17.
