SEATTLE, Wash. - Standout Ashley Marshall started her indoor track and field senior season in strong fashion on Friday evening, winning the women's 200-meter dash in 24.60 seconds at the UW Invitational while senior Cekarri Nixon took 10th in the highly competitive field.
Marshall, who finished second in the event at last year's meet, won Friday's competition by nearly a tenth of a second over Morgan Thompson of Cal State Fullerton (24.69). Genna Settle of Portland State was third (24.75) while Dominique Keel of Washington State (24.96) took fourth. Marshall's time was just off her school record of 24.56 which she set at last year's Husky Invitational, which was also at Washington.
Nixon, who sits third on the Aggies' all-time 200 list, was a strong 10th in the 42-competitor field on Friday. She was matched with Marshall in the four-person final heat and crossed in 25.18. Both Aggies will be back in action on Saturday in sprint events.
The pole vault began competition on Friday evening with the first of two flights and will be finished on Saturday. UC Davis' Samantha Eilert was in the first flight while sophomore Holly Tokar will jump on Saturday.
Most of the meet's action, which includes the remainder of the Aggie contingent, will take place on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.
