SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Samantha Shellem won three individual events and was one of three multiple event-winners on the day, as the visiting Aggies led wire-to-wire en route to a 148-114 victory over host UC Santa Barbara in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's swimming dual meet on Saturday morning at the Campus Pool.

In the team's first dual since mid-November, UC Davis improved to 4-2 overall, and 3-0 against conference opponents, on the season, winning 10 of the 16 events on Saturday thanks to eight individual wins and a pair of relay victories. The Gauchos fell to 3-4 overall.

The Aggies never trailed, starting with a win in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Hilary Hunt, Hailey Ferko, Hilvy Cheung, and Shellem, touched in a time of 1:44.90, and they cruised from there. UC Davis won each of the first four events before UCSB swept the podium in the 100 breast to close to within 57-36. The Gauchos also took home three of the top four scoring spots in the 50 free, but the Aggies won five of the next seven events to nail down the win.

Aside from contributing to the meet-opening relay win, Shellem added individual titles in the 200 free (1:51.84), 100 free (52.01), and 500 free (5:01.90), to add 27 individual points to the team's total. Hunt doubled in both the 100 (56.64) and 200 (2:04.96) backstroke, while Cheung who also finished second in the 200 IM (2:07.72), added wins in both fly distances, touching in a time of 2:01.81 to win the 200 fly and 56.17 to win the 100 fly.

Junior Marissa Brown took home the Aggies' other individual win, touching first in the 1000 free in a time of 10:26.06, as UC Davis claimed four of the top five spots in the event.

The Aggies closed with a win in the 400 free relay, with the foursome of Kirsten Brand, Courtney Schultz, Robin Lampron, and Hunt, touching in a time of 3:29.92.

UC Davis completes its regular season on Saturday (Jan. 31) at Noon, hosting MPSF rival Pacific in the final dual meet of the year at the Schaal Aquatics Center. It is the final tune-up prior to the conference championships, which begin on Wednesday (Feb. 18) at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif.
