BREMERTON, Wash. - Will Brink had 16 pars on Tuesday as the UC Davis redshirt freshman shot a team-best par-72 for the Aggie men's golf team which finished fifth at the Kikkor Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington.
Brink had a tough round of 88 during Monday morning's first round and then improved significantly to shoot 78 in the afternoon. He kept the momentum going on Tuesday's to post his solid round. Brink helped UC Davis shoot 8-over 296 to finish the tournament at 12-over 876.
The Aggies were only three strokes behind fourth-place Washington and just two back of third-place San Diego State. Oregon, which entered the day tied for third with UC Davis, tied UCLA for the team title at 3 over.
Senior
Matt Seramin concluded his tournament with a 73 for the Aggies, tying for 11th at 2 over.
Luke Vivolo tied for 13th at 3 over after his round of 76,
Mike Brockington had a 77 and tied for 17th at 5 over, and
Ryan Han was 7 over and tied for 27th after shooting 75 on Tuesday. Brink tied for 69th.
Brink's previous best round prior to this week was a 77 at the Saint Mary's Invitational last week. However, he had a strong effort to lower that by five shots. He opened his round at Gold Mountain Olympic Course with nine straight pars before his only blemish came with a bogey on the par-4 10th. Brink quickly got that back, however, with a birdie on the par-5 11th before coming in with seven straight pars.
Seramin's round of 73 was highlighted by four birdies, including three on the front nine where he shot 1-under 35. Vivolo was 4 over after nine holes and was eventually 7 over before ending his day in strong fashion with three birdies over the final five holes to card 76.
Mike Brockington had two birdies and was just 2 over on the back nine while Han had three birdies and was just 1 over on his last nine holes.
UCLA's Jake Knapp was 7 under and won medalist honors by three shots over Xander Schauffele of San Diego State.
The Aggies will finish their fall season with the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by Cal, on Oct. 12-14.
