DAVIS, Calif. - Seven members of the UC Davis women's track and field team who each participated at the NCAA West Prelim Meet, have earned distinction for their classwork by being named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
Four of the seven also earned Big West championships this season.
Seniors Kellie Grigg and Alycia Cridebring earned honors along with juniors Katie Barber, Cekarri Nixon and Holly Millerand freshmen Holly Tokar and Christine Hoffmann. Student-athletes named to the squad needed to earn at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and, in the case of outdoor track athletes, have competed in any round of the NCAA Championships.
Grigg, a hurdler from Alameda, posted a 3.82 GPA in managerial economics. She won the 400-meter hurdles at the Big West Championship and participated in both that and the 100 hurdles at the regional meet.
Cridebring, who has been honored by the USTFCCCA repeatedly in the past for her academics, compiled a 3.39 GPA in environmental science and management. The distance specialist from Pleasant Hill was Big West champion in the 5,000.
Nixon, who set a school record (53.55) en route to her conference title in the 400, is from Sacramento. She earned her All-Academic honor with a 3.25 GPA in political science.
Barber set a school record in the high jump (5-8.75) at Cal during the season to punch her ticket to the NCAA Prelim Meet. She is majoring in animal science and carries a 3.25 GPA. Miller, from nearby Rocklin, ran anchor for UC Davis when it set a school record (45.02) in the 4x100 against Sacramento State. She has a 3.31 GPA while majoring in human development.
A pair of freshmen round out the Aggies' honorees. Tokar, from Ventura, won the Big West pole vault title. She has a 3.53 GPA in neurobiology, physiology and behavior. Hoffman won the 10,000 at the conference championships at Woody Wilson Track. The San Luis Obispo native carries a 3.43 GPA in civil engineering.
The honors add to an outstanding outdoor track and field season for UC Davis which won its third straight Big West Championship.
