SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Ben Corfee fired a 2-under 68 while Matt Hansen and Jonny Baxter each had 72s, as the UC Davis men's golf team climbed a spot in the final standings to finish fifth at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Talking Stick Golf Club.
Joshua Granger, who entered the final round in second place, shot 74 and finished in a career-high 13th place at 1-under. Corfee's round, which tied Granger for the Aggies' best of the tournament, jumped him 20 positions into a tie for 22nd at 3 over.
Hansen tied for 35th at 6 over, Baxter was 14 over and tied for 72nd, and Luke Vivolo, who shot 79 on Tuesday, tied for 88th at 17 over.
UC Davis cut two strokes from its second-round score on Monday to card a 6-over 286 in the final round. That pushed it up from sixth place to fifth in the final standings at 17 over.
Eleventh-ranked Oklahoma went 9 under on Tuesday en route to a 9-under total. The Sooners beat both BYU (-2) and Colorado by seven shots with Utah (+9) well back in fourth. Twenty-one teams were entered in the tournament.
Oklahoma's Michael Gellerman posted a 6-under 204 total to claim medalist honors.
UC Davis will play its final regular-season tournament before the Big West Championships when it hosts the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club from Apr. 18-20.
