DAVIS, Calif. - Future UC Davis Aggie, and current Elyria High School senior Isaiah Walton capped a memorable career by receiving a slew of post-season awards. Included in his collection are two all-county awards and all-state recognition.
Crossing the 1,000 career-point mark as Elyria High's top player throughout his four-year career, Walton was named All-Lorain County Division I Player of the year after averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. In addition to receiving the county's most prestigious award at the D-I level, Walton also earned a spot on the All-Lorain first team.
Due to his success this season under Lorain County Coach of the Year Brett Larrick and his tutelage, Walton also captured Associated Press Division I All-Ohio honorable mention.
Walton was the only player from Lorain County to earn D-I all-Ohio honors.
On March 30, Walton enjoyed a rare opportunity to compete alongside Clearview High's Gerrell Williams, one of his closest friends, in this year's Gene Legeza Cage Classic, held at Oberlin College.
In this annual all-star showcase, the Elyria High School standout scored 21 points to help lead his squad to a 124-113 victory.
"The most important thing was that I had to chance to play with my middle school teammates," said Walton following the game when interviewed by The Chronicle-Telegram's Steve Walker. "We always talk about what could have been if we played together in high school. I couldn't ask for a better way to end the season."
As part of this year's Classic, Walton finished second in the event's 3-point contest.
