The Aggies end the 2013-14 season with a 12-10 overall record; UC Santa Barbara improves to 8-15 and will face top-seeded Long Beach State-the Big West's defending champions who have captured titles in nine of the last 10 seasons.
Down 4-1 in their No. 2 doubles match against UCSB's Jaimee Gilbertson and Priscilla Garcia, Megan Heneghan and Melissa Kobayakawa battle back to win six of the next nine games to force a tiebreaker.
By digging deep, the Aggies' duo extended their school's Division I win streak to a staggering 16 contests by winning the tiebreak, 7-3, en route to an 8-7 match victory.
UC Santa Barbara ended up collecting the doubles point by winning the final doubles match to finish; also needing a tiebreaker to determine a victor, the Gauchos prevailed, 7-4, to take a 1-0 overall lead heading into the singles round.
The tournament's No. 5 seed officially advanced to Saturday's semifinals by earning wins at No. 6, No. 4 and No. 2, each in straight sets, to down No. 4-seeded UC Davis.
Friday's battle also marked the final appearance on the courts for Megan Heneghan, Melissa Kobayakawa and Nicole Koehly-three Aggie seniors who will graduate this year.
In the Big West's other semifinal, No. 2 UC Irvine and No. 3 Hawai'i will meet Saturday morning after defeating No. 7 Cal Poly (4-0) and No. 6 Cal State Northridge (4-2) respectively. Winners of these matches will battle Saturday morning for the conference championship.
All three matches remaining at this year's tournament will begin at 9 a.m.
