Landry's Career High Leads Aggies Past Gaels

April 25, 2014

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Junior midfielder Elizabeth Landry scored seven goals while sophomore Courtney Neff added five to lead UC Davis to a 20-12 win over Saint Mary's in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Friday night.

The Aggies close out the 2014 season with an 8-8 overall record, 3-6 in MPSF play. The Gaels wrap up at 2-12 for the year and 0-9 in conference.

Senior Lauren Nardi and freshman Pauline Kaplan each added two, tying and setting individual career highs, respectively. Landry's seven goals surpasses her previous best of six, set almost exactly two years ago -- she wrapped up her freshman season with six against SMC on April 24, 2012. Neff set a new career best, having previously scored three against Denver this season and Howard last year.

UC Davis' 20 total goals also marks a season best. On the opposite end, Aggie goalkeeper Jordan Majka notched a season-best 12 saves in a complete-game victory.

For Saint Mary's, senior Rachel Minarovich, junior Jaclyn Biggers and senior Krista Morgan each tallied three goals and an assist.

Minarovich had two goals and her lone assist amidst a 4-1 start for the Gaels. The lead ballooned to 7-3 when she completed her hat trick on an eight-meter attempt with 12:59 to go. However, UC Davis scored six of the next seven to take over the lead. With 1:28 left in the first half, Landry drew a double team up top, then hit Meghan Jordan on a crease roll to give UC Davis its first edge for good.

Neff hit three goals in a 5-1 Aggie run to extend the advantage from 9-8 at halftime to 14-9 by the 44th minute. Biggers interrupted the UC Davis onslaught with back-to-back goals in the 48th, narrowing the gap to 14-11. But Landry and Neff converted three straight free position goals, Ellie Delich assisted Nardi after rebounding her own shot with under seven minutes to go, then Kaplan made it five straight in converting a Landry assist with 5:37 left.

Besides the goals total, UC Davis also compiled season highs in total points (27) and shooting percentage (.571). Sophomore Mary Doyle picked up six draw controls despite being barely able to run by the second half of the contest. Junior Sara Quero led the Aggies with six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Landry finished the season with 48 goals, lifting her career total to 110. She now ranks seventh in school history, vaulting past Megan O'Connor (2004-07) and Katie McGovern (2004-08).

Friday's game also served as a sendoff for four Aggie seniors. Nardi, Majka and attacker Carly Voris played in their final collegiate games. Allison Langius, whose career was cut short by injuries, served as a team manager for 2014. She was also honored in the pregame tributes.
