SAN MARCOS, Texas - Both the UC Davis men's and women's track and field teams grabbed three of the top six spots in the 200-meter dash at the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State on Saturday, bringing to a close a good weekend for the Aggie sprinters.
The women also captured the 4x100 relay.
Ashley Marshall (23.75) was second in the women's 200 and was followed closely by Cekarri Nixon (24.10) in third and Leslie Reed (24.32) in sixth. The Aggie men were led by Sava Boyadjiev (21.51) who was third, Kaio Sena (21.57) who took fourth, and fifth-place Marcus Johnson (21.72).
Marshall's time was just off her season-best time of 23.69 at the Cal Opener in early March while Nixon matched her career-best time which also has her third on the program's all-time list. Reed made a big jump on the all-time 200 chart, jumping three spots to No. 4 after beating her previous best of 24.66 from last year's Causeway Dual with Sacramento State.
Boyadjiev and Sena made similar marks on the men's all-time 200 ledger. Boyadjiev's time vaults him to No. 4 - his first appearance on the list - while Sena moved from a tie for 10th to No. 7. Johnson's time is already No. 4 all-time. He achieved that at the Cal Opener.
Marshall, Nixon and Reed teamed with Grigg to win the 4x100 in 45.50, winning the race by more than a half-second over New Mexico State (46.05). Grigg rounded out her day by taking 10th in the 100 hurdles in 14.62.
Karl Moran raced in the 110 high hurdles for the UC Davis men, finishing eighth in 14.91 seconds.
Both UC Davis teams will be in full action next weekend when they travel to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday, and the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
