Hawai'i improves to 4-12 with a 3-4 Big West record while UC Davis falls to 8-11 and 3-4.

Ellie Edles and Lauren Curry helped the Aggies earn a split of the first two doubles matches to finish, defeating Hawai'i's Paulina Petriskova and Kelly Domingo 8-4 in a matchup between each team's No. 3 pair.

Unfortunately for UC Davis, the Rainbow Wahine took the final doubles event to take an early 1-0 lead.

"I told my players that we are great singles team, have come-from-behind before and should let that doubles round go. They do that great; we've won a lot of matches this year after losing the doubles point," said head coach Bill Maze.

Hawai'i's advantage lasted for only a brief period of time thanks to Nicole Koehly; facing Kelsey Daguio, she breezed through her singles match to record a 6-0, 6-0 shutout to tie the overall score at one apiece.

"From the start, I hit as many shots to her backhand because I knew that she sliced a lot," said Koehly. "Those balls were coming in short, especially when she was hitting into the wind. I took advantage of her backhand, that helped me take a lead early in the first set and take control throughout the rest of the match."

As was the case in every singles and doubles matchup, both teams not only had to battle each other, but the elements as well as gusts of up to 30 miles per hour were recorded in and around Davis throughout the event.

"It's hard, but I had to ignore the wind since both of us were playing in the same conditions. I will play as ugly as I need to in order to keep the ball in play, especially in these conditions," explained Koehly.

Edles completed a sweep of her individual matches, and gave UC Davis the lead for the first time when her singles match against Paulina Petriskova ended shortly after Koehly left her court.

As was the case with her doubles match, Edles was able to dictate the pace of play and downed Petriskova one again, this time by a 6-1, 6-3 result to push the overall score in her team's favor for the first time of the day at 2-1.

Hawai'i pulled even to tie the overall match until Tiffany Pham helped the Aggies regain the lead once her 6-3, 6-0 was officially posted on the scoreboard.

But it was the Rainbow Wahine that earned the final victories of the event by capturing wins in the final two singles matchups, including one between each team's No. 3 that needed a third, and decisive set that ultimately served as the margin of victory.

"This was a great conference battle; 4-3 scores are fun to play in, but they are a bit more enjoyable when you win," said Maze.

UC Davis will continue its homestand with its third straight Big West match on Friday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. versus Pacific.
