STANFORD, Calif. - Shanie Landen went wire-to-wire to win her heat while finishing second overall in the women's 800-meter run's B sections at the Stanford Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, helping highlight UC Davis' performances.

UC Davis had a busy day on Friday and posted some outstanding marks, including three school records. A smaller group, spread among both running and field events, remained for Saturday's competition.

Landen, a junior from Sunnyvale, captured the second heat of the 800's B sections with a time of 2 minutes, 10.09 seconds. That ties her for No. 7 with Jessica Altnow (2000) on the Aggies' career leaders list.

Landen won a tight finish on Saturday, crossing just ahead of San Francisco's Sophie Curl (2:10.46) and Stephanie Morgan (2:10.49) of Illinois. There were 41 competitors in the B sections. Hillary Holt of the College of Idaho posted the fastest overall time (2:09.37).

UC Davis sprinters had another strong day with Melanise Chapman (6th, 24.20), Ashley Marshall (9th, 24:36) and Leslie Reed (20th, 24.95) racing well in the 200. The trio earlier combined with Cekarri Nixon to finish third in the 4x100 in 45.67.

Kayla Carter (14.16) placed fifth in the 100 hurdles after advancing to the finals from Friday's prelims. Freshman Praise Adesida added a fourth-place in the collegiate discus, posting a mark of 146-05.

Ben Parodi helped highlight the men's day, taking fourth in the collegiate shot put (50-07.25) while Corey Hobbs was 15th in the 200 with a wind-aided time of 21.86. UC Davis' 4x100 relay of Titus Garrett, Hobbs, Kaio Sena and Sava Boyadjiev had a sixth-place finish, crossing in 41.44.

"Day two at the Stanford meet gave some of our athletes the chance to come back on tired legs and compete a second day, something that we'll have to be good at six weeks from now at the conference level and in the postseason," said head coach Drew Wartenburg. "It's good to see both short relay teams getting the stick around and starting to synch a bit more.

"The start of spring quarter allows us to return to our normal routines, and next weekend we have a select group that will compete down in Tempe at the Sun Angel Invitational," he added.
