March 25, 2013

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - Senior attacker Elizabeth Datino scored a career-high seven goals while senior Hannah Mirza and freshman Courtney Neff each added hat tricks, helping UC Davis ride out a 17-3 halftime lead to a 23-6 victory over Howard in collegiate women's lacrosse action at Greene Stadium Monday afternoon.

The Aggies win their second straight, improving to 3-5 for the year. The Bison fall to 1-10 overall.

Datino matched her previous career high of six before the halftime break, including two scores in the first three minutes of play. She finished with a perfect 7-for-7 shooting chart, helping UC Davis knock down 74.2 percent of its shots (31 attempts). Mirza also had an assist and six draw controls to go with her three goals. Freshman Ellie Delich tallied two goals and two assists.

The Aggies outshot their hosts by a 25-4 margin during the first half. Datino's personal 2-0 start was doubled to 4-0 after Carly Voris and Mirza netted unassisted goals in the fifth and sixth minutes. Howard got on the board with Cynthia Smalls' goal immediately after Mirza's finish, but Delich and Mirza struck within 34 seconds of each other to extend the UC Davis lead to 6-1 after just 7:15 of play.

Smalls won the ensuing draw to help Jaymie Cox cut the margin to 6-2 on the next possession, but the Aggies scored 11 of the next 12 to take a commanding lead. Datino had four goals and an assist during an eight-minute stretch in that run. As a team, UC Davis won 13 draws before the break.

The Aggies slowed down the action in the second, taking just 10 shots to the Bison's seven. Neff converted an assist from Meghan Jordan early in the frame then completed her hat trick with 2:05 left in the contest.

The Howard stat crew did not compile ground balls nor did it provide complete information on caused turnovers or draw controls.

The Aggies' goals total ranks tied for fourth in school history. The 2012 team scored 24 goals on two occasions, tying the output first set against Colorado College on April 25, 2004.

UC Davis continues a three-game road trip at No. 18 Navy on Wednesday.
