Seniors Lead Charge Over Hatters In 18-4 Win

Feb. 24, 2013

Final Stats

DeLAND, Fla. - Seniors Stephanie Guercio, Elizabeth Datino and Hannah Mirza each scored three goals while Meghan Jordan tallied four assists, leading UC Davis to an 18-4 win over Stetson in women's collegiate lacrosse action at the Athletic Training Center Sunday afternoon. The contest also marked the first win for new head coach Kate Henwood.

The Aggies even their record to 1-1. The Hatters slip to 0-2 for the year.

Datino's four assists lifts her career total to 80, tying the school record first set by Christina Corsa in 2011. Datino, last year's NCAA champion in points per game, already holds the season and single-game benchmarks at UC Davis.

Freshman Ellie Delich chipped in two goals for the Aggies. Jordan, Carly Voris, Sam Axenroth, Allie Lehner, Courtney Neff, Anna Geissbuhler and Mary Doyle also added one goal each. Sophomore Kai Murphy and junior Jordan Majka split goalkeeping duties. They tallied three saves between them, having faced just 11 shots for the game.

After spotting Stetson the early lead with Noelle Morabito's eight-meter goal, UC Davis scored 10 of the next 11 during a 16-minute stretch. Mirza scored all three of her hat trick during that stretch, as the Aggies claimed a 13-3 lead at the halftime break. UC Davis scored four unanswered to start the second half, maintaining at least a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Aggies outshot their host by a 43-11 margin while holding and 18-5 edge on draw controls. Mirza won six such possessions while Guercio added five. UC Davis also punished Stetson in the transition game, successfully clearing 12 of 13 opportunities while holding the Hatters to 14 of 23. As a result, the Aggies amassed 18 caused turnovers, with Lehner leading the way with four.

UC Davis kicks off its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season with a road game at Saint Mary's on Friday.
