SEATTLE, Wash. - UC Davis' Lauren Wallace and Raquel Lambdinfinished first and third, respectively, in the 800-meter run while several other Aggies finished up a busy week with strong performances at the UW Open at Dempsey Indoor.
The meet was the third day of indoor track and field competition for UC Davis this weekend following the Husky Classic which was held on Friday and Saturday. The Aggies had impressive showings in that meet and carried that momentum into Sunday's meet which allowed for some team members to compete in off-events.
"The Aggie women capped off a long weekend that saw some athletes with reduced workloads for today's meet but featured results that showed a good level of consistency and demonstrated early season strength," said Aggie coach Drew Wartenburg."
Wallace, the school-record holder in the 800 (2:07.48), won the event on Sunday in 2 minutes, 8.01 seconds, edging Lyndsay Harper of Bowerman AC (2:08.18). Lambdin was third in 2:09.91, a mark that debuts her at No. 2 all-time.
Melanise Chapman, who lowered her school mark in the 200 on Friday to 24.63, posted her second-fastest time on Sunday, finishing third in 24.73. She was just ahead of teammate Ashley Marshallwho had a PR of 24.74, solidfying her No. 2 spot on the Aggies' all-time list. Chapman was also second in the 60 in 7.58, just behind her career-best 7.52 set on Saturday.
Another strong effort came from Shanie Landenin the 400. She won her heat and was second overall in 56.42, placing her fifth all-time at UC Davis.
Emily Bush approached her pole vault school record (3.82m, 12 feet, 6.25 inches) on Sunday before finishing third in her section at 3.77 meters (12-04.50). Freshman Danielle Steffenalso had an impressive showing in her flight, finishing second at 3.62 (11-10.50).
Veronica Smart and Danielle Steffenwere solid in the weight throw. Smart posted a mark of 16.54 meters (51-03.75) while Hussey finished at 15.31 meters (50-2.75).
UC Davis will continue its indoor season next Sunday at Fresno State's Run for the Dream Invitational.
