Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Sophia Lisaius scored her career-high fourth goal of the season in the 46th minute to slice Longwood's advantage in half during Saturday's third-place battle from Liberty Field Hockey Field in Lynchburg, Va., but that goal was the final one scored by either team as UC Davis fell 2-1 in its final game of the season to capture fourth place at the NorPac Championships.

In addition to earning the program's highest finish in postseason competition, UC Davis ends its season with a 6-14 overall record and 3-3 conference mark.

After a scoreless first half, Longwood returned from the break to score its first of two goals within a seven-minute timespan 24 seconds after action resumed to jump out to an early lead.

UC Davis responded three minutes later when Lisaius lit up the scoreboard by redirecting a long pass from Jamie Garcia into the lower left-hand corner of the cage.

With that one swing, the junior forward doubled her scoring output from the previous season and pushed her Garcia's team-high assist total to seven.

A stalemate ensued throughout the 14 minutes following Lisaius' goal until Cloey LemMon was robbed of her eighth goal of the year, one that would have pulled UC Davis even with Longwood at two apiece entering the final 10 minutes of regulation.

On her penultimate shot of the morning, LemMon quickly took a swing on goal once she realized Lancers netminder Kaye Goulding was caught off her line. Were it not Longwood defender Kelley Fay, UC Davis would have erased its two-goal deficit and entered the final portion of the game with momentum clearly on its side. Instead, Fay stepped into the cage to record the game's only defensive save to preserve her team's slim cushion.

As the game entered the final moments, interim head coach had no choice but to pull his goalie to add an extra attacker to the field. Even though UC Davis held a one-woman advantage during the final 4:16 of action, a fight for possession filled those final minutes until the final buzzer sounded.

UC Davis also ended Saturday's matchup with a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners and outshot the Lancers 9-8.

Led by LemMon and her team-high four shots, Lisaius, by virtue of scoring her team's goal, Garcia, Danielle Koehne, Kristin Rodgers and Kayla Wigney were collectively responsible for all nine swings taken at Goulding.

Saturday's contest also marked the final appearance in a UC Davis uniform for Danielle Herrington, LemMon, Megan Reardon and Carly Schoch. Pile included all four graduating student-athletes in his starting lineup.

Shortly after the championship concluded, the NorPac released its all-tournament team, a list that included LemMon as UC Davis' lone representative.
