GLENCOE, Ill. - Led by junior Matt Hansen, the UC Davis men's golf team is in eighth place after the second round of action was suspended due to darkness at the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern at the Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill.
Second-round action will resume on Monday prior to the start of the third round.
UC Davis posted a first-round score of 303, followed by a collective 294 in round two for a 29-over 597. Host Northwestern is in first at 12 over with three holes to go while Coastal Carolina sits four strokes back in second place. Tennessee is third at 17-over.
Hansen's back-to-back 73s highlighted the Aggie lineup as he finished the first day at two over and is tied for tenth. Tyler Raber is tied for 14th at five over while Jonny Baxter is tied for 25th at 7-over 149. Matt Seramin is tied for 58th while Mike Brockington is tied for 73rd to round out the UC Davis lineup.
Hansen opened his first round with a bogey, but followed that with four straight pars and a birdie on the sixth hole to move to even. Consecutive bogeys on the next two holes, however, dropped him to two over as he entered the back nine. His fourth bogey of the day moved him to three over, but he closed his first round with five straight pars before a birdie on the last hole of the round left him at 2-over 73.
His second round was highlighted by a strong front nine that featured a birdie on hole three as well as eight pars. He entered the back nine at one under, but fell back to two over for the round.
In the first round, Raber closed out his front nine at two-over, then moved back to even after back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. A bogey on the 15th and 17th holes, however, put him back at two over for the round.
Raber was three-over for his second round, which was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 third hole and 14 pars.
Baxter, who shot a first-round 78, improved on his second round score by seven strokes. He was one over through five, closing out his front nine with four straight pars. His consistent back nine was comprised of seven straight pars before a birdie on the par-4 17th hole moved him to even.
Nine of the 15 teams will complete second-round play on Monday before the third round begins.
