EUGENE, Ore. - Josh Granger showed a 10-stroke improvement on his second round score while Matt Hansen and Luke Vivolo each tied for 24th as the UC Davis men's golf team finished tenth overall at the Oregon Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club.
The Aggies were the fourth-best scoring team of the day with a third-round score of 1-over 289.
Host and 14th-ranked Oregon won the tournament, edging Long Beach State by just two strokes at 17-under 847. Saint Mary's finished in third at 1-under 863.
Hansen and Vivolo each shot a 5-over 221 for the tournament as Vivolo earned his best finish of the year while Mike Brockington tied for 50th at 11 over. Josh Granger tied for 65th and Jonny Baxter tied for 71st overall.
Vivolo's final round featured an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole as he improved on his second-round score by two strokes, finishing even for the day.
The freshman parred on seven of the first eight holes and birdied on his second hole, but bogeyed on the final hole of his front nine to remain even.
He made three straight pars before back-to-back bogeys dropped him to two over, but the eagle moved him back to even and he closed out his round with three more pars.
Hansen's third-round 74 earned him his third top-25 finish of the year. He finished his front nine at two over, then remained steady over his back nine, making seven straight pars before a bogey dropped him to three over. He got back to two over, however, with a birdie on his final hole of the day.
Granger's final-round 70 was the lowest score of any Aggie for the day and was a double-digit stroke improvement on his first and second round scores. He opened with five straight pars before a birdie on the par-4 17th hole moved him to one under where he would stay until consecutive bogeys dropped him to one over.
The junior followed that with a birdie and five pars to get back to even before back-to-back birdies left him at two under for the day.
Brockington shot a steady final round, especially on his back nine which featured seven pars and two birdies as he finished at one over for the day. Baxter's 3-over 75 was an eight-stroke difference from his second round score.
UC Davis will next compete at the U.S. Intercollegiate Mar. 30-Apr. 1 at the Stanford Golf Club.
