CHICO, Calif. - UC Davis' Kira Rienecker won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.18 seconds on Thursday afternoon to help her finish with 2,430 points after four events and move into second place in the heptathlon at the Chico Multi Classic at Chico State.
Rienecker, a sophomore from San Jose, trails unattached competitor Andrea Severson who has 2,689 points. Rienecker holds a slim lead over Chico State's Robin Hannah who has 2,427 points. UC Davis freshman Murphy Nicholson is in ninth place with 1,999 points.
The Aggies' Thomas Gore-Schrek ended the first half of the decathlon, scoring 2,677 points and is in 11th place.
Rienecker scored 711 points in the 100 hurdles after finishing in 16.03 seconds and then picked up 491 points in the high jump and 447 in the shot put before finishing strong in the day-ending 200. Murphy went 4 feet, 7.5 inches in the high jump for 523 points and then scored 607 in the 200 to help highlight her day.
Gore-Schreck had his best event in the 100, tallying 705 points after finishing in 11.73 seconds. J. Patrick Smith of Chico State has 3,612 points to lead the field after the first day.
Competition at the Chico Multi concludes on Friday.
