RENO, Nev. - Senior Lauren Radke and junior Emily Bushofficially opened the 2012 season for the UC Davis women's indoor track and field team on Saturday, competing at the National Pole Vault Summit at the Reno Livestock Center.
Radke, who was runner-up at the Big West Championships to highlight her outdoor season last year, cleared 12 feet, 3.5 inches (3.75 meters) on her first attempt and had good looks at 12-9 before finishing in a tie for sixth in her flight of the competition. It was her best start to an indoor season, just a half-inch off the school record and moves her into third on the Aggies' all-time leaders list.
Bush was fourth at last year's Big West meet and opened her 2012 indoor campaign with a mark of 11-5.75 ( 3.50 meters), tying for 15th. She made a good attempt at clearing 12-3, going over before coming down on the bar and tying for 15th in the final standings and into a tie for fifth all-time at UC Davis.
Sonia Grabowska of Utah State and Leslie Brost of North Dakota State tied for the flight's top honors after going 13-3.5 (4.05 meters).
The Aggies' indoor season will open fully next weekend when they travel to Seattle for the University of Washington Indoor Invitational. The meet will bring together many of the nation's top collegiate programs.
