LA VERNE, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Kevin Peat landed a career-high 18 saves against Pomona-Pitzer while senior center Aaron Salit scored a total of eight goals in two victories, leading 11th-ranked UC Davis to a 20-6 win over co-host LaVerne and a 10-3 triumph over PP at the Inland Empire Classic men's water polo tournament Sunday.
The Aggies have won five straight games, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Western Water Polo Association.
Salit netted four goals in the morning matchup against LaVerne, while seven UC Davis players -- Colin Hicks, Luke Collins, Jared Clapham, Bernie Rogers, Hank Dickey, Chris Richardson and Russell Hampton -- each accounted for two.
The Aggies also totaled 13 saves, including three by Richardson and senior utility Ryan Hagens. Peat had two such picks to supplement his 10 saves in the cage. UC Davis led 3-0 in the first quarter and 8-2 at the break before cutting loose with 12 goals in the second half.
In Sunday's afternoon action, Salit scored four goals and Richardson added three as the Aggies held the Sagehens scoreless into the second half. Peat's 18 stops in the net surpass his previous best of 16, set against Air Force in last year's WWPA tournament.
For the weekend, UC Davis outscored its opponents by a 75-28 margin in five wins. La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer are both members of the Division III Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference who also compete for the WWPA's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
The Aggies return to action on September 17 and 18 at the NorCal Invitational in Stockton. UC Davis is pooled with Pepperdine, California and Vanguard.
