Live Scoring
TUCSON, Ariz. - Andrew Haggen had three birdies and shot a 1-under 70 on Friday while freshman Matt Hansen's 72 has him just one shot out of the lead as the UC Davis men's golf team finished the second round of the NCAA Southwest Regional at OMNI Tucson National Golf Resort in 10th place.
Like Haggen, Tyler Raber carded three birdies and finished with a 71 for the Aggies who finished with a 287 team score for the second consecutive day. UC Davis is 6-over 574 and nine shots out of fifth place. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Finals later this month in Stillwater, Okla.
Eighth-ranked San Diego State is 12 under after 36 holes and enjoys a five-shot advantage over Arizona. Texas A&M (-5), Pepperdine (-4), Cal (-3) and Washington (-3) round out the top six positions.
Also for UC Davis, senior Austin Graham had a 74 on Friday while Daniel Covrig finished with a 77.
Hansen's spectacular 7-under 64 during Thursday's first round gave him a two-shot lead on the field and he's still just one shot behind Oregon State's Alex Moore with a round to go. Moore fired a 69 and is 7 under for the tournament.
Hansen had five birdies and was 4 under after eight holes on Thursday and was on nearly the same pace early in Friday's second round. He birdied the par-4 13th and the par-3 17th to go 2 under before a double-bogey made him even at the turn. He birdied the 592-yard, par-5 eighth hole to help him eventually finish with a 72.
Hansen is a stroke in front of third-place Cameron Park of Texas A&M and two in front of four other players.
Haggen improved his first-round score by five strokes, shooting 70 on Friday. He birdied his third and fifth holes, made the turn 1 under and then played the next seven holes a shot below par before finishing even. He's tied for 35th at 3-over 145. Raber's 71 was sparked by back-to-back birdies on his front nine and then had six straight pars to cap the day. He's tied for 45th at 4-over 146.
Graham is tied for 50th at 5-over playing a mostly steady round of 74 that featured a birdie and 13 pars. Covrig shot 77 for the second straight round, opening with two straight birdies to quickly jump 2 under. He played his front nine 2 over and the back 4 over and is tied for 68th at 12 over.
Besides the top five teams, the low-scoring individual not an advancing team will also move on to the NCAA Finals. The Big West Conference champion Aggies will play their final round with Texas-Arlington and Purdue as they look to make a run for a nationals berth. They'll begin teeing off at 8:20 a.m.
