Final Stats
EUGENE, Ore. - Five different Duck players scored hat tricks as Oregon rode a 10-1 start to a 19-7 victory over UC Davis in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Papé Field Sunday afternoon. For the Aggies, senior Gina Hoffmire tallied three goals and an assist.
UC Davis falls to 10-4 for the season and 2-3 in conference, moving to fifth in the league standings. Oregon events its overall mark to 7-7 and improves to 4-1 in MPSF play, securing one of the four seeds in the conference tournament.
Besides Hoffmire's hat trick, sophomore Hannah Mirza chipped in two goals while Rachael Martinez and Anna Geissbuhler each netted one. Junior Vannessa Jamison led the Aggies with four ground balls to go with a draw control and a caused turnover. Freshman goalie Jordan Majka posted a season-best 10 saves.
For the Ducks, junior Bina Barrett, senior Alex Breiner, twin sisters Jana and Jess Drummond and sophomore Ashley Inman each tallied three goals. Barrett also assisted on three others for six total points.
After Martinez converted an eight-meter opportunity to put UC Davis on the board in the eighth minute, Oregon scored eight unanswered in a span of 14 minutes, forging a 10-1 lead. Hoffmire scored on a free position with 6:56 left, then assisted Mirza in the final minute before the half to cut the Duck edge to seven at the break.
Breiner and Jana Drummond each scored two goals in a 6-0 start to the second half, extending their team's advantage to 16-3 with 18 minutes remaining.
The Ducks outshot their guests by a 35-22 margin, including 21-7 in the first half. They also won 18 of the game's 28 draws and committed just two turnovers before halftime.
UC Davis concludes the 2011 season with a home game against No. 7 Stanford on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
