Aggies Take Tenth at Amer Ari Invitational

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Andrew Haggen cut his second round score by six strokes, shooting a team-best 69 Friday as the UC Davis men's golf team finished tenth overall at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii.

After posting a 75 on day two, Haggen came back in the final round with a steady front nine that featured seven pars and a back nine highlighted by four birdies to finish at 3-under 69. The Aggies also received a 71 from Matt Seramin who improved on his second day score by four strokes. Austin Graham, Tyler Raber and Matt Hansen each carded 74s.

Oregon's Daniel Mernicki took medalist honors, shooting 72 to finish at 13-under 203.

UC Davis posted a 72-hole score of 8-under 856 to finish tenth and was 2-strokes ahead of Stanford who is ranked ninth nationally and finished in 11th place. The Aggies were two shots behind No. 48 Oregon who finished ninth. No. 4 Oklahoma State took the team title and were five strokes ahead of second-place Texas, ranked seventh nationally. No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Georgia Tech and No. 24 USC rounded out the top five.

Graham tied for 28th overall in the individual standings at three under while Raber's 2-under 214 tied him for 36th overall. Haggen's third round score of 69 moved him to even for the tournament and he finished tied for 41st, while Seramin tied for 59th at two over and Hansen tied for 65th at three over.

Seramin came back from a second round score of 75 and shot a 71 in his final round which featured three birdies and 13 pars. Graham had three birdies and 10 pars in his final round while Raber carded four birdies. Hansen played a steady final round that featured 14 pars and a birdie on the par-4 first hole.

UC Davis returns to action Feb. 13-15 at the Battle of the Beach, hosted by Long Beach State.
