DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior lacrosse Christina Corsa was selected as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. The weekly honor is chosen by the conference's sports information directors. This is the second career award for Corsa, who last claimed such honors on February 22, 2010.
A native of Danville, Calif. and an alumna of Monte Vista High School, Corsa scored four goals and dished out six assists in the Aggies' 21-12 win over Saint Mary's on Friday. All six assists happened in the second half, during which UC Davis overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit. Her third assist came as a result of a key play in the 49th minute. With the score tied at 10-10, Corsa stick-checked Gael midfielder Nisa Orozco-McCormick near the Aggie defensive restraining line, picked up the ground ball, then sent it inside to a cutting Elizabeth Datino for the go-ahead score. That ignited a 9-2 finish for UC Davis.
Corsa shot 4-for-7 for the game, picked up four ground balls and caused two SMC turnovers during the game. She is the first Aggie lacrosse player to win a weekly honor this season. Stanford's Leslie Foard (Feb. 14) and Emilie Boeri (Feb. 21) scored the first two.
UC Davis, which improved to 2-1 with Friday's win, returns to action in a five-day, three-game road trip. The Aggies open the trip at Central Connecticut State on Wednesday. Game time is noon Pacific
