STOCKTON, Calif. - Matt Hansen tied for ninth overall with a third-round score of 69 while freshman Jonny Baxter shot the same as the UC Davis men's golf team finished eighth overall at the SCVB Pacific Invitational at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton.
The Aggies finished at 23-over 875 to take eighth place.
Oregon State won the tournament in a one-hole playoff of the 18th hole. The Beavers edged out Nevada while Colorado State came in third.
Hansen's strong final round featured an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. He started things off on the tenth hole with a birdie, before making back-to-back pars. A second birdie moved him to two under, but consecutive bogeys on holes 14 and 15 took him back to even.
The eagle got Hansen right back on track and he closed out his front nine at two under. He followed that with a consistent back nine that featured a birdie on the par-4 second hole and seven pars, including the final five straight holes.
Baxter also finished at two under for the day after carding six birdies, including three straight on his front nine. A bogey on his second hole of the round, the par-4 11th, moved him to one over, but the freshman pulled off a birdie hat trick on holes 12, 13 and 14 to get back to two under.
He closed out the front nine at two under, then opened his back nine with five straight pars, but his final four holes alternated between birdies and bogeys and he finished at 2-under 69 for the day.
Baxter finished at 7-over 220 to tie for 31st overall.
Josh Granger tied for 35th, Luke Vivolo tied for 40th and Matt Seramin tied for 47th to round out the Aggie lineup.
The SCVB Pacific Invite closed out the fall schedule for UC Davis. The Aggies return to action at the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii Feb. 1-3.
