STOCKTON, Calif. - Matt Hansen shot even while Matt Seramin and freshman Luke Vivolo each finished at one over after Monday's first round at the SCVB Pacific Invitational at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton.
UC Davis is currently tied for tenth overall with Cal Poly after shooting five over as a team.
Hansen opened with a birdie, but dropped to one over with back-to-back bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes. The sophomore battled back, however, shooting two birdies and eight par shots through the remainder of his first round. A birdie on the par-3 17th hole capped off the round.
He is tied for 20th overall while Seramin and Vivolo are tied for 31st. Jonny Baxter and Josh Granger are tied for 42nd place.
Seramin shot a steady first round that was highlighted by birdies on the par-4 13th and par-5 18th holes. He shot par on 13 other holes and finished at 1-over 72.
Vivolo's first round featured an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole, which moved him to 1-over and was followed by four straight par holes. He shot birdie on the par-5 tenth hole to reach even, then carded another birdie two holes later to get to one under. Three bogeys moved him back to two over, but he closed out the round shooting a birdie on the par-5 18th hole.
Baxter and Granger each shot a 74 as the freshman Granger's front nine featured a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole, while Granger shot birdies on three different holes on his back nine.
Nevada and Denver are tied for the lead at six under while Charlotte's Olafur Loftsson shot a 65 to take the individual lead.
The day was also highlighted by Colorado State's Cameron Harrell hitting a hole-in-one on the par-3 14th hole.
Play resumes on Tuesday with second round action beginning at 8 a.m.
