Granger's 66 Leads Aggies At Final Day Of Prestige

Oct. 11, 2011

LA QUINTA, Calif. - Josh Granger shot a 6-under to tie for 14th while Matt Seramin improved by six strokes and the UC Davis men's golf team closed The Prestige at PGA WEST with a 13th-place finish on Tuesday at the Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.

UC Davis shot a collective six under on the final day of action and finished at 5-over 869 for the tournament, which it co-hosted with Stanford.

The top of the leaderboard changed seemingly with every hole, but Oregon claimed the team title for the first time ever at The Prestige. The Ducks narrowly edged Washington, who finished in second place by a mere two strokes. Stanford claimed third place with a final team score of 24-under 840.

The Huskies saw Cheng-Tsung Pan claim individual medalist honors, marking the second time in the history of the The Prestige that Washington has won the individual title.

Pan shot three sub-70 rounds, including a 65 in his final round which was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. He edged out Oregon's Eugene Wong whose second-round score of 64 moved him from 12th to first, but a 70 in his final round left him three strokes back of Pan.

Granger's final round was highlighted by nine birdies as he improved on his first two rounds by six strokes. Granger shot consecutive birdies on the 11th and 12th holes, then hit three straight on holes 15, 16 and 17 to close out his front nine.

Entering the back nine, an unfortunate double bogey moved the junior to three under, but he regrouped with birdies on three of his six remaining holes.

Matt Hansen tied for 21st, Matt Seramin tied for 61st and freshman Luke Vivolo tied for 79th. Junior Andrew Haggen was forced to withdraw from the final round due to illness.

Freshman Jonny Baxter, playing as an individual, finished 69th overall and eagled on the par-4 first hole to begin play on his back nine.

Hansen's 69 was a three-shot improvement on his second round score, with birdies on six holes.

Seramin shot a steady final round of two under that featured a back nine that saw him birdie the par-5 second hole, then make par on all his remaining shots. Vivolo closed his UC Davis debut with a solid final round that was highlighted by two birdies and 10 par shots.

UC Davis returns to action on Oct. 17-18 at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational hosted by Cal. The two-day tournament will be played at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
