LA QUINTA, Calif. - Josh Granger eagled on on the par-5 12th hole while Andrew Haggen and Luke Vivolo each improved by three strokes to lead the UC Davis men's golf team in second round action at The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta.
UC Davis lowered its second round score by three strokes and is tied for 13th with San Diego with a collective team score of 11-over 587.
Behind Eugene Wong's impressive 64, Oregon sits atop the leader board at 24-under and owns a 5-stroke lead over second-place Washington. San Diego State is only stroke back in third at 18 under.
After beginning the day in 12th place, Wong steadily moved up the standings to tie for the lead with Arizona State's Spencer Fletcher at 10-under 134.
Sophomore Matt Hansen continues to lead UC Davis and is tied for 28th position after shooting even in Tuesday's second round.
Josh Granger is tied for 35th, Andrew Haggen is tied for 59th, Matt Seramin is tied for 71st and Luke Vivolo is tied for 74th while Jonny Baxter, playing as an individual is in 70th place.
"Other than a couple of big numbers at the end of the round we played a lot better today and it was good to see our team improve," said head coach Cy Williams. "We're ready to get out tomorrow and make some moves up the leaderboard."
Granger birdied on the final hole of his front nine, the par-4 fifth hole, to move to 1-over and birdied again on the par-4 tenth hole, but bogeys on holes six and 11 moved him to two over. An impressive eagle shot, however, raised him to even and pars on his final two holes kept him even for the second straight day.
Haggen improved his second round score by three strokes and is 5-over for the tournament. He carded consecutive birdies on his first two holes as well as on the par-3 fourth hole, and shot par on every hole of his back nine to finish at 1-over for the day.
Seramin's second round was highlighted by four birdie shots as he matched his first round score of 4-over 76 while Vivolo shot three birdies and improved on his first round score by three strokes.
Baxter finished at 1-over for the day, a five-stroke improvement over his first round score, after shooting a steady round that featured two birdies and 13 par holes.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday with fixed tee times set for 7:30 a.m. (PT).
