No. 15 UC Davis Finishes 11th At NorCal Invite

Sept. 19, 2010

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. - Junior center and reigning Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week Aaron Salit scored three goals to lead 15th-ranked UC Davis to a 7-4 win over 18th-ranked Santa Clara in the 11th-place game of the NorCal Invitational men's water polo tournament Sunday. The Aggies also fell to No. 10 Long Beach State by an identical score earlier in the day.

UC Davis is now 8-3 for the season, and 7-0 against members of the WWPA.

Salit's hat trick led four Aggie scorers in the win over Santa Clara. Sophomore Colin Hicks added two, while Luke Collins and Matt Vowell chipped in one apiece. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Peat tallied six saves. UC Davis held a 4-2 lead at the halftime break, surrendering one Bronco goal in each quarter en route to the win.

In Sunday's opener, senior lefty Matt Richardson scored three goals while sophomore Hank Dickey had one in the 7-4 loss to the 49ers. Peat tallied seven saves between the pipes. The Aggies trailed by one goal at the end of the third quarter, but LBSU outscored UC Davis by a 3-1 margin in the final frame to take the win.

UC Davis continues action against WWPA foes with its home opener against Air Force on Monday. The first sprint is scheduled for noon at Schaal Aqauatics Center.
